SHREVE ISLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

A Community Partnership - Where Learning Never Stops!

WELCOME

Shreve Island was selected as the first elementary school in Caddo Parish to receive the U.S. Department of Education's Blue Ribbon School Award.  In addition, Shreve Island is the only school in Louisiana that has received the International Reading Association's Exemplary Reading Program Award three times.

Blue Ribbon Schools offer instructional programs that meet the highest academic standards, have supportive and learning-centered school environments, and demonstrate student outcome results that are significantly above the average of comparable schools. This is the highest and most prestigious honor that a school can receive. The award was presented to the school staff by the President of the United States during a ceremony in Washington D.C.

Shreve Island is one of two Caddo Parish School participating in Year-Round Education. Students attend class for approximately nine weeks and then have intersession breaks. In 2011-2012, intersession breaks are in October/November, February, and April/May.  Intersession day camps will be held for one week each in October and April/May. Shreve Island takes the same holidays as the other Caddo schools. Additional information on the Year-Round Program and a calendar are available in the school office or on this web site under "Documents."

Shreve Island participates in a program entitled THE LEADER IN ME from Stephen Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective PeopleStudents and staff focus on leadership development and positive lifelong habits.

The Shreve Island school philosophy encompasses the premise that all children can learn and deserve a quality education. Given the appropriate opportunities, all children can succeed as they move toward mastery of basic academic skills and higher order thinking. The belief is held that as we help children assume responsibility for their own behavior, they will learn to respect authority and the rights of others. They will learn to become effective, productive citizens who can and will preserve a free society. School-based decision-making encourages attainment of these goals by offering a partnership based on mutual respect between the staff, the students, home, community, and business persons. This partnership leads the school family to success in an atmosphere-WHERE LEARNING NEVER STOPS!
